The Use of Paper In Daily Activity

Introduction

The use of paper in Indonesia have been considered excessive, in the manufacture of paper takes no small amount of trees. This survey was conducted to find out how the public awareness could encourage the movement to save paper in Indonesia.

Method

The research was done by online questionnaire. Sixty seven people were questioned on Monday 25 April, with approximately equal numbers with different age and job.

Of the majority, 68.7 per cent respondents are intended to join the movement. Most of them are student, who use paper in their daily activity to do task, writing note, and et cetera. In the other side, 26.9 per cent are not ready to join the movement. Because they still use paper in most of their activity.

Findings

The 55 students think paper, of course, being an important thing to do their task. They choose reuse method to push the using of paper; there are similarities amount of paper, between using paper less than 5 and 5-10 of paper a day.

The 3 teachers think that paper is a really important thing, they are prefer to recycle paper and used both side to save paper. Same like the students, they use 5-10 paper in a day.

The 7 workers, they think the paper is a really important thing but some of them think that paper is not really important for their daily activity. Most of them only use ess than 5 paper in a day.

The other is a housewife, they think paper is not really important for their daily activity; and they only use less than 5 paper in a day.

In the fact, the respondents were aware that reduce the frequency of using paper is necessary to be done, it can not be denied that the paper is actually an important thing. While most of them also know that paper comes from trees, and in the manufacture of paper takes trees more than one ton of tree. From some of the choices given,  49.3% respondents prefer to use both-sides paper and think that is the most effective ways to reduce the using of paper.

Conclusion

It is clear that reduce the using of paper is an important thing to be done. Most of respondents aware that the use of paper should be minimized. However, in contrast to their intentions, they also do not agree if the government prohibits the use of paper. It means, they are keen to participate in the movement to save paper but not totally stopped using paper. They prefer another methods that possible to do.

Dear Ms Callistasia,

I am writing to comment an article of yours that published in The Jakarta Post on 9 April 2016 "KPK to question Ahok on disputed land procurement".

In my opinion the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has to resolve this case as soon as possible; because if they don’t, it will give more bad impact for some parties that involved in this case.
In addition, most of citizen will easily influenced by any rumors from any other mass media.

However, I expect the cooperation of Mr. Ahok in answering the questions will give some clues to resolve this case.

We are sorry that we could not change our decision because we have some data which strengthen our reasons to close the school. Certainly, we have considered many things before making this decision, including the problems that faced by the parents of Sky Island students.
